On May 1, The Florida Industrial Security Working Group met for training, updates on industry guidance, networking, and CLE credits. Below are some key takeaways from the program:
Having a technology control plan (TCP) is critical to the success of your industrial security program. Education of your employees is paramount to the success of a TCP plan and safeguarding information that is not releasable to non-US persons. If you haven’t reviewed or audited your TCP lately, this is the time to do so. Academic institutions face perhaps the most challenging task as there are numerous foreign nationals and visitors to consider. Contact us if you have questions or need some help with your TCP.
We also learned about having a proper information management system to track visits, cleared personnel, documentation, and inventories. Some choose to use Excel, others have off-the-shelf products or home-built tools – whatever you choose, be sure to keep the information updated as any system is only as good as the info in it.
Other things discussed during the FISWG were the completion of a DD254, NBIS updates and changes to be aware of, and an eMASS overview about how to manage your classified IS and the data required to sustain an ATO for cleared processing.
